Trot: Yeah - a horse racing magazine...

So - as many of you know (and some don't) - I do illustrations for Canada's largest Harness Racing magazine. It's a weird gig, but I love anything that keeps me thinking and trying new things. I don't want to post anything here that hasn't seen print - but here's one from May (or so) this year... I keep trying new things with the layouts, and there's one early in the new year that has dark room slideshow lighting. Pretty fun.

Other people's characters...

So - when I work on my weekly political comics, I often find myself doodling during the scan/colour process to keep my mind busy (weird, I know) - and if I like the doodle, I wind up finishing it after sending that week's offering off to my editor.

This is one of those... Ross Campbell's Shadoweyes.

Enjoy.

See more of Ross' work here.

I (heart) Music...

Back from England. Figured I should post a little something... so (confession time), these are two of the quick headshot style avatars I've designed to use on a couple of the messageboards I frequent far too often (thereby avoiding much of the illustration I SHOULD be doing).

Brandon Curtis (of The Secret Machines) on top, William Reid (of The Jesus And Mary Chain) below. Enjoy!

More sooner than later I hope.

Lighting Girl Loves Rocket Boy

So - I've been working on this 50-odd page book for about a year now. Personal ups and downs have delayed it's completion by a few months - but it's starting to wind down... and I'm really proud of how this whole project has worked out. Written by Roel Torres, it's a love story - that happens to centre around two people with super powers. It's fun, has some real heart - and still manages to kick @$$.

Will post more panels later - but know this - my first long-form book will be unleashed on the world before too long.

*sigh* Trying again...

I keep trying to get a blog off the ground. I have the best of intentions. The ongoing idea that I can show some of my work - that some people may care, and moreover - that it might help keep me on top of producing, scanning, prepping, and just getting my work online.

So - here we go again... I can hopefully keep at this... wish me luck...
